The modular graphics card | モジュラーグラフィックカード

"Modupie addresses the issue of "planned obsolescence". To counteract this unsustainable marketing strategy, in which products quickly become obsolete and are usually irreparable, Modupie serves as a pioneering product that is intended to be a positive example for companies and their products. The result is a modular and sustainable graphics card. The product name is made up of "modular" and "pie" (from which a piece can be taken). Graphics cards are currently rising sharply in price. They are needed for all kinds of programs, from design to video games. Designers in particular know the importance of a graphics card. "Quickly outdated", "cost-intensive", "not easy to clean", "repair & recycle" are some of the keywords that apply to graphics cards. Therefore, the aim of this work is to create a durable product that can be repaired, upgraded and customized independently. The users themselves should regain a feeling for how products are constructed and function.

Modupie consists of a housing that contains a board with the GPU, a heat sink, a heat cover and a fan cover. Modular components can be plugged into this housing via a ZIF socket, including the GPU, RAM and connectors. Instead of thermal paste, Modupie uses thermal pads that can be reused several times. Recycled materials are used. Modupie can be connected to computers both internally and externally. The graphics card is rented out to customers and offers them up-to-date components for replacement. Used or obsolete components can be returned to the Modupie company, which are then checked and offered again at a lower price.
